Awards: Anita Borg Awards

The Anita Borg Awards for Social Impact and Technical Leadership recognize outstanding leaders who embrace Anita Borg’s lasting vision. Recipients receive a $10,000 prize and are honored at an awards banquet held at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.

In 2004, Dr. Fran Allen, IBM Fellow Emerita, and Karen Banks, Global Coordinator, APC Women’s Networking Program, were recipients of the inaugural Anita Borg Awards. In 2006, we recognized Dr. Carol Muller, Founder and CEO of MentorNet, and Dr. Wendy Hall, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southhampton, UK. In 2007, Paula Goldman, the founder and director of the Imaging Ourselves project with the International Museum of Women, won the Social Impact Award, and Mary Jane Irwin, an Evan Pugh Professor and holder of the A. Robert Noll Chair in Engineering in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Penn State University , won the Technical Leadership award.
