Systers™: Latinas in Computing
A community created by and for the Latinas in computing with a 
mission of promoting their representation and success in computing related fields.
Latinas in Computing community was established with the help of Anita Borg Insitute for Women in Technology (ABI) after a Birds of a Feather session in the 2006 Grace Hopper Conference at San Diego, CA titled Latinas in Engineering, where a group of energized Latinas from the industry, government labs and the Academia got together to discuss the strengths of the community and the misconceptions affecting it. We talked about different aspects of being a double minority, including the self-limiting beliefs that interfere with our ability to excel and establish ourselves as leaders in the Computing community. Given the great resemblances among the experiences of the participants in this event, Latinas in Computing established as its first goal to define key strategies to promote leadership and professional development among current and next generation of Latinas. As a first step towards achieving this goal, Latinas in Computing organized three events at the 2007 Grace Hopper Conference.
In 2008, LiC working on establishing new alliances and our participation in the 2008 Grace Hopper Conference. In February 2008, a LiC member participated in the AAAS 2008 meeting in the 90-minute Symposium Promoting the Success of Minority Graduate Students and our MentorNet portal went live.
